Clearing the Rockies

It was a chilly morning in Silverton, CO.

We hung around a while to let the frost burn off, then headed out on the Million Dollar Hwy.

We are having to re-route a section of the trail that is still closed due to snow. About 7' still.

We eventually pick the trail back up...

And follow a 4WD Jeep trail out of the mountains.

It appears that we are the first ones through here this year, due to all the fallen trees that are still blocking the trail.

But we are prepared...

With many different methods of removal.

Throw in a some muddy sections, and we were certainly working for the miles today.

Eventually we are let out onto some fast gravel roads that we travel on West into Utah.

Then turn North towards the La Sal Mountains. Again we had to re-route the mountain pass due to snow at the higher elevations, blocking the road.

We ended the day at a campground in Moab, UT. Tomorrow we enter the San Rafael Swell -- One of the most inhospitable, desolate places in the country, and we are crossing it the hard way!
